The Curious Body is a somatic improvisation practice I began developing in college. You do not need dance experience to participate, it is a practice open to people of all ages, abilities, and experience level. This practice centers around connecting to yourself and your body through improvisational exploration. This guided exploration focuses on what the movement feels like, rather than its appearance. I utilize lots of imagery that provokes feeling the image's experience within your own body.
I started this practice as a way to understand and trust my body more, and to break out of my typical movement impulses. It has been tremendously helpful in connecting to my body as both a movement exploration and a mindfulness practice.
I have taught this class to people ages 11-70, of all ability and skill level.
Embrace your curiosity in this somatic improvisation class! Movement and movement choices will be explored in every aspect. There is an emphasis on how movement feels, not how it looks. Through the improvisational exercises, center yourself, and connect to your body and internal self in a new way. Utilizing imagery and play, the class will explore new ways to move and think about movement, even if it’s a little weird!
